Regrets: FEELTA.
Meeting opened at: 4:40 pm.
1) Introductions: Those present introduced themselves briefly.
2) The chairman went through each of the points on
the PAC7 planning update (see below) and we discussed each point as
necessary.
3) Lack of sponsorship from publishers: Talk to them
and see who they will sponsor as they know their stable of
books/authors 2-3 years in advance.
4) Flier: Translations need to be checked for accuracy as there are errors.
5) Alan M. is acting as co-Chair for PAC 7 and
stressed that he/we need to work harder to foster better relations
between PAC members, Ministries of Education, etc.
6) BC reps also want to work more closely on conferences in their local regions.
7) Question for List: Should we be fostering a closer relationship with Asia TEFL?
(The consensus at the meeting seemed to be yes as they are more
linguistics and research oriented than many of the PAC member
organizations.) To be discussed on the PAC list.
7-1) Note: List members are appointed by local associations and approved by PAC.
The number of reps was thought to be 10, but this will be confirmed and
details will be posted on the PAC list. Should be confirmed on the PAC
list
[Update: CONFIRMED. It was decided at
the PAC6 meeting in Bangkok that the following guideline would be
followed: 10 PAC discussion list members with posting privileges from
each association]
8) What other agenda does PAC have other than conferences? Should there be any
other collaboration, etc.? How / should PAC think more strategically
regarding regional research, other collaborative efforts? To be
discussed on the PAC list.
9) Should we invite AsiaTEFL to PAC7? To be considered by PAC members. To be discussed on the PAC list
10) Details of PAC 8: Will be finalized by February
5th by PALT. So far, only the location (Manila Hotel) and the rough
dates (1st week of December) are decided. To be discussed on the PAC
list
11) KOTESOL expressed strong interest in PAC 9. The
issue of whether this is to continue as an annual event or return to a
biannual one was brought up, but this was not decided at this time. To
be discussed on the PAC list
12) Timothy G. reminded those present that
Publishers make up their budgets on a yearly basis so he felt that
keeping PAC as an annual event would be better for sponsorship and
funding.
13) Decisions on many of these issues will be decided at the next PAC meeting or through online discussions.
*See notes from the Chairman below for more details.
Meeting closed: 5:20 pm.
